Nature’s Echo Farm
At Nature’s Echo, we take a holistic approcah to the land – considering our lives, family, the land and the animals. When in Sydney we ‘practiced’ farming. We turned some of our front garden into a mandala vegetable garden, planted fruit trees, kept chickens for eggs, raised fish and kept lawn mowing guinea pigs. The more we experienced this and learnt about good and bad farming practices, the more we felt the urge to do more. A few years later we stepped out, taking a year off to experience farming (through Woofing) and to travel the east coast of Australia to find our place. Hence we came to settle in the hinterland of Port Macquarie, west of Wauchope in New South Wales.
The farm of 160 acres was a blank canvas, with only boundary fences, some cleared land and dams that needed attention. Parking our caravan here, and building a large shed to live in and finally moving into our house we have made this piece of land into a farm.
Our priorities have been to raise produce in a way that best suits the land, improves the soil, and letting the livestock have a good life within the restrictions of a farm and their safety.
We are continuously learning, on the job and through reading and listening to others on the journey.
